It is my hope to provoke some ideas, or provide that voice while you work online. I have spent many years broadcasting in the US, and once it’s in your blood it’s hard to get away from it. Podcasting has its limitations, however the creative freedoms available out weigh those same limitations. I had the opportunity sit down for a one on one conversation with newly elected Lancaster Mayor R. Rex Parris. Mayor Parris has several plans for addressing issues pertinent to the residents of Lancaster. The mayor exhibit’s a great since of determination and dedication toward the office of mayor. His positive attitude is refreshing and his excitement about moving forward is infectious. The future that Mayor Parris envisions includes all of the citizens of Lancaster. With crime reduction being a first priority, the mayor is very concerned about those least able to defend themselves. Coming from a humble beginning, gives this mayor some insight as it pertains to many that have shared a similar back ground. The mayor plans to lead with great authority on the one hand and a velvet glove on the other. Given a chance the residents of Lancaster should see their city moving in a positive direction.

The May 10th protest against illegal immigration got somewhat out of hand as a result of a counter protester. The Palmdale Sherriff Department was called in and one individual (pictured on the right) was detained cited and released. The Antelope Valley Independent Minutemen found themselves being attacked with rocks, hot coffee and many insults. There was much name calling that added to some of the frayed tempers but there were no injuries. Had the Sherriff department not responded with decisive action there was the potential this would have gotten worse. From the interviews that took place, the protesters were maintaining a position against illegal immigration. And the counter protesters took the position, they are being targeted based on their ethnicity. In my opinion until the government takes some real action regarding this debate, the two factions will continue with this social struggle, with violence being the next evolutionary step.

I was born in Los Angeles, CA. in the early fifties. Growing up during that time, the San Fernando Vallley was a simpler place and time. Needless to say I grew up, got married, joined the military, worked as a welder for many years, bought a home in Palmdale, CA. and moved the family to the desert in 1988. Well the kids grew up, I got divorced. Quite working as a welder...got into Bartending (Red Lobster), and in 1995 got my first radio job at the local country & western station. Yeah you are reading correctly...I went on the air over-nights, as C.W. "The Over-Nite Cowboy". From there... on to Chandler Broadcasting (which morphed into High Desert Broadcasting) where I produced several talk shows, which eventually led to producing my own show. Good fortune has allowed me to host both music and talk formats, and I have enjoyed broadcasting ever since.
Being the proud Grandparent of 10, has changed some of my approach toward life and with each year that I celebrate above ground, my mission is revealed in a much more focused manner. Hopefully I am getting wiser as time goes by :-), however you never know until the next BIG mistake. Thanks for logging on to my podcast.
